Kuminga

We play so good when we run small ball lineups, it really makes me wonder where Wiseman fits in once he is healthy. Obviously it will depend on the matchup, but if he improves defensively I could definitely see us stacking him with Steph/Poole/Klay and just using him as a constant lob threat to add to the spacing.

Nghbrhd_slacker87

He's a unique weapon even if he doesn't quite know how best to effect the outcome of games yet. He fits in SOOOOO much better onthis team than last years team. Watch the Spurs or TWolves games last year and ask yourself. What if Steph weren't the only weapon on the floor being respected? What if we had a lineups with respected shooters you couldn't help off without paying for it? What if a lineup were PG Steph SG Poole SF Klay PF OPJ C Wiseman Every player other player on the court in that scenerio garners extreme respect... so you have a scenerio where Wiseman can screen and roll or get in PnR action or simply hang in the dunker spot as Steph and Poole draw gravity off the bounce. Wiseman is still a top ten physical specimen dude in the league. He's 7'1 and beats almost everyone down the floor on the break and given even a touch of space when he gets up most players just stay out of the way. He has real teachers focused on him in an actual planed and monitored way this year. The path to him making impact is simple. On a great shooting team he needs to simply feast on gravity and bad switches... be so effective at finishing near the rim that players can't help off him or it's an easy dunk. The caveats to that is he needs to reach that "game slows down enough to see" point in his development the openings and how to move himself and the ball quickly to take advantage. His more important role is on defense. We cant have dudes like Tyler Zeller and Jusef Nurcic giving our bigs a handful let alone having to deal with the Embiids Jokic Towns ADs that he isn't quite ready for but thats the standard he shoukd work towards. Wiseman needs to stamp that out.

StrongSalamander194

Or even better when it's draymond instead of OPJ. Draymond runs point. Wiseman sets screens, you have 3 lethal shooters and Wiseman will just be rolling to the basket uncontested

mansgotgame97

So if Dame fathered Steph in the first preseason game, does that mean JP grandfathered Steph in the same game? 😮🤯

NobodyInParticular-

Remember when the sub was convinced of the conspiracy where Kerr had an infatuation with roleplayers because of his past of being a roleplayer and purposely didn't play Steph because Steph wasn't a roleplayer? Good times.

sh1r0_n3k0

If Poole could play consistently like this, how do you think Warriors gonna extend his contract? 100M for 4 years?

mansgotgame97

If he becomes a max player, he gets paid max money. 6th men with his skillset will probably command 12-20 mil. Best case scenario is if either Moody or JK pan out in the wing position. We let go of Wiggs then extend JP with a contract he'll still have to keep working for. Klay's and Dray's max contracts would have been off the books by the time any of our promising wings pan out. Also, I've always been in the poole train but let's keep our expectations in check. Its way FUN that way.

TomatoBuster01

Idk if this said a lot, so I just want to say that Steph is a top-tier leader and teammate. The Wiggins situation, and how he is there for everyone is really amazing.

Freeeecurry

Kuminga needs more minutes in preseason. Very happy with OPJ shooting. This is gonna be a fun year

maccchicken

howd our rooks play i couldnt watch

Oh_no_bros

Nothing notable. They both were far less fluid than the vets running around and making passes. Kuminga was definitely raw and needs more reps to get into the flow of the system, but he was taking the opportunities and shots given to him. Moody was pretty quiet, they missed him couple of times when he was open but he seemed like he was focused on playing within the system and not making big plays. Not too much to take away, though Kuminga’s form bothers me for some reason, shots are flat and lack a soft touch. I have a feeling people will be much less harsh on Wiseman if they see Kuminga and Moody also struggle their first year with the intricacies of this motion offense.

Ladnil

Kuminga was sloppy. I didn't get much of an impression from Moody tbh

Bobstar447

I'm salivating over the idea of a Steph/Poole/Klay/Porter/Draymond lineup. The spacing and shot creation would be insane.

BlankVoid2979

wigs is better shooter than poole tho, do peolple forget poole was a 35% shooter from 3 last season? ya'll act like he shot 40%. why is everyone disrespecting wigs today?

Kuminga

You have a point, but it is hard to know rn with Poole looking the way he did tonight. Even if Jordan is slightly less efficient than Wiggins, he is better at playmaking and moving off the ball, which could potentially aid Steph and Klay more than Wiggs (offensively) depending on the opponent. Of course Andrew is only 26, so he could be even more lethal this year as well, I'm excited to see them both in rotations next to the splash bros.

Freeeecurry

Pretty sure Poole will shoot better than Wiggs this year. Wiggs jumper is meh

Jonna09

If Klay is anywhere back to his normal, Poole for sure is back to 6th man. Poole’s defense isn’t comparable to Wiggs yet.

hellmath

Poole got bag of tricks. Hopefully he improves in defense, i still see him dying on screens or getting pushed by cj. Avery will be badly needed on some games

vinavuhuy

Steve Kerr will go crazy this season as Steph is not the only one who pull some wild shit anymore

Ladnil

Do teams agree beforehand whether they're going to play their stars? Nets/Lakers both sat their top 3. Nuggets/Clippers sat Jokic and PG, and then Warriors/Blazers both played guys 20 minutes or less for the most part. It would make sense since preseason is practice and nobody benefits from a blowout in practice, just curious.

Bobstar447

Seems totally plausible tbh. No point in torching bench units

hellmath

Cheers to Steph hopefully facing less double team. Poole party! Let's go 3nation lol

Jonna09

Sucks that the top post on r/nba is Steph launching into a defender. Of all the big players who bait fouls, he does it the least.

Produceher

Who cares? Popularity doesn't win games.

Jonna09

Ehh, it’s mildly annoying. The whole “disrespect” starting a little early this year.

NobodyInParticular-

Yeah, it's an anti-Steph hivemind. They'll make the "hurrr durrr Warriors fans told me he doesn't do this often!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" narratives and it'll pass.

IsThisMe8

So excited about our roster 1-14. Kinda seems like Avery Bradley is going to get that last spot since there's a lot of shooting on our team this year. It just sucks that GP2 is recovering from injury and we can't see him compete for the last spot. I actually like Mulder so I think it would be great if he can come back on a two-way, but he has a really good chance of getting picked up if he is waived.

NobodyInParticular-

Kerr did a great job coaching, the training camp clearly helped. Ball movement by our 3.5 unit was fantastic.

dnesdnal17

There's a new sheriff in town. Jordan. Powell Vets looking fine. Think AB for the last spot is fine, though didn't catch much of galloway. Terrible shooting night for AB but can't make much of it this early. Gonna have to watch poole highlights on repeat for the rest of the night lmao. Damn that was fun to watch

GoldenStateWardells

Galloway kept missing, but wasn't afraid to shoot.

Oh_no_bros

Big takeaway is we're back to making tons of passes and spotting open men and opportunities. Having vets, improved Poole and JTA, all moving the ball around really seems like Warriors basketball again. For the rooks, clearly looks like they aren't "ready" in the sense that the moment they were in the system wasn't as fluid. Plenty of time to learn though though its been one preseason game it ain't looking like all hands on deck like last year and we can ease the rooks and Wiseman back.

Jonna09

Game was definitely fast for the rooks. Both of them were a step slower, esp on defense. At least on offense they seemed to be at the right place most of the times.

Nghbrhd_slacker87

Oh yeah for sure they need more time they are not ready for the real NBA minutes let alone assignments like James Harden or Kevin Durant. Send them to the G League to get work. The squad will be fine. The hope is they'll come along enough to contribute enough down the stretch to save some old legs and no lose games. Our fan pipedreams can be put to rest. I'm glad to do it too the team looked really good. They didn't look bad though... they looked like rookies.

Thrillawill

Year 3 Poole. Called it.

NobodyInParticular-

I TOLD YALL ABOUT OPJ MONTHS AGO. Hopefully he gets minutes with the starters against more starters.

lilcj123

I honestly hope he stays fully healthy this season, that will be the big factor...

NobodyInParticular-

I'm like 95% sure he was barely trying, I don't think I saw him actually sprint once. He was laughing and smiling the whole time. It's a good sign, him not forcing it and risking injuries when it doesn't matter

Nghbrhd_slacker87

Instant reaction notes 1 Damn this team can really shoot and defend. Curry Poole OPJ Wiggins Belly Lee Moody (soon Klay) all plus shooters. 2 Kuminga has alot of learning to do think preseason gonna be a wake up call to him. Needs to forget about playing or minutes he flat out needs to work. 3 Bradley low key exactly the backup we needed complements Poole and Curry perfectly as a tenacious defender who can take them off ball 4 OPJ definitely looks a step slower than i remember but still like him and Belly giving great shooting with size. 5 Poole is gonna score 18 to 20 ppg flat out he's a top ten shooter off the dribble in the league. 6 think Bradley is winning the last roster spot 7 some of the interior defense was rough to watch my vs Nurkic and Zeller 8 i think Wiseman is watching seeing he has an important role to play when he returns 9 Bob actually did a wonderful job putting this roster together looks better than i thought game 1 10 Zellers face is an elbow magnet 11 Not to make him shot averse but Kuminga should probably take one three max a half there's just more effective pieces to his game ATM. 12 Poole took about half of his 3s from Dame depth he needs to save it for the regular season lol the secret is out IMO among NBA insiders. 13 The depth that team are going to have to guard Curry and Poole is going to create lots of easy buckets for Wiseman if he knows where to be.

BlankVoid2979

didnt bradley shoot like 0\\6 from 3? hopefully its just a bad game cuz i dont want brad wannamaker 2.0

Nghbrhd_slacker87

Far from Wannamaker. Who scratched and clawed to get in the league abd has never been better than a third string PG. Bradley. He's still a top tier on-ball defender to my eye even if he's no longer peak version of himself. He had a cold cold cold night shooting. He'll be an average shooter at worst look at his past numbers. You can count on it over the long term. 43 / 36 / 78 are his career splits... average nba shooter at the guard spot.

biiirddman

Porter is so nice but even the way he runs and jumps is like he’s at the brink of an injury

Nghbrhd_slacker87

Yeah def noticed this i didn't remember him being an awkward mover but hey long as he knocks down open shots

IsThisMe8

Of the ex-Warriors, I hope Paschall does well and that the Blazers keep Marquese. I just do not wish Bazemore well. lol

maa_kasam

The whole sub loves Paschal and Marquese. The whole sub hates Bazemore and for all the right reasons xD

bringlincoln

Poole be like... ![gif](giphy|DeOa0SqsDH5sc)

Nghbrhd_slacker87

Pooles deep shooting was absolutely filthy today. Dudes turned himself into a unique threat.

kinefresh

where the game thread at

Nghbrhd_slacker87

Game thread too busy for my taste no actual conversations happen there it's the ESPN discussion boardof reddit lol... One liners buried one minute later by the next 60 one liners.

jtruth9

Let's get it!!!

Daclitz

really hope the rooks show out today. ik it’s just preseason, but i’m just hyped to see them play

threewind

Lifes about to get let a little less shittier now that the season is almost starting. I now have smthg to look forward to every day lol you know like checking scores, stats, dubs highlights.

Bobstar447

It's a really nice place to park your brain after work that's for sure

Kuminga

If GP2 doesn't make the roster, can Kuminga switch back to 0? Or is it too late?

Nghbrhd_slacker87

Lol i was thinking the same thing... single zero very aesthetic number. I'd buy that jersey.

Agent_DVD

I’m sure all the merch they have been selling with double 0 would play into it. But sure it’s possible.

MegaJ0NATR0N

I'm ready to stop talking about Wiggins and the vaccine. Yes we all said some shit but that was because it was a problem for the team, now it's not. That was all in the past, let's just get ready for preseason and finally enjoy some Warriors basketball.

kinefresh

Klaymen 🙏🏽

Jiraiyanamikaze

Wiggins, we were asses to you. But in almost every conceivable sense of the word, you did the right thing. Fan forever now. You didn’t sink a dynasty, I’m proud of you.

CameronPlain

Yeah I disagree with the sentiment. The guy only got the vaccine because he personally would've lost several million dollars. Obviously the effect it had on the team didn't play into his thinking, because he would've done it earlier if it did. And obviously his concern for his fellow humans didn't play into it either. Same thing. The guy got the vaccine after, and **only** after, he realized how it'd affect his own bottom line. I've lost a lot of respect for the dude.

nydaweth

You got special contacts in his camp or something? Cuz he hasn't said why he got it and probably won't. Was not getting the vaccine misguided? Probably. Dangerous to others? Definitely...but regardless of why it was done, it was done. By taking this first step, he may be able to learn more and educate others who felt the same. People need to be allowed to move past mistakes...especially those who are likely to have been targeted by dangerous (and to them, convincing) misinformation. And he was one of the few people with a platform to spread misinformation to fail to do so. He just didn't get it, for what reason we'll never know. If your respect for someone is based on internet rumors and assumptions, it's not worth having.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CameronPlain

Yeah I'm weird because I don't respect anti-vaxxers. Especially ones with no conviction in what they're saying.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CameronPlain

lmao okay, what am I assuming here? Wiggins came out last week and mumbled through answers about not believing in the vaccine, and said "What's right to one person isn't right to the other and vice versa". Then the day after the league said unvaxxed players won't get paid for missed games, he goes out and gets vaccinated. If the league hadn't made that rule, he would've sat out half the season. Yeah, super weird right?

shiroman99

I agree. I was one of the people very critical of Wiggins. Was he wrong to delay the vaccination until the start of training camp? Yes. But at least he got it in time to play in all the home games that matter. For that I am thankful that he came to his senses (whether that be on his own or because he stood to lose money, it doesn't matter)

vulcans_pants

Things I’ll be keeping an eye on tonight and rest of preseason: - Can Kuminga play passable defense? I think he can contribute on offense, but he won’t be able to stay on the floor if he’s lost on defense. - Is Moody too slow? - How well is OPJ moving? - Is JTA’s shooting real? - How washed does Avery look? - Is Galloway a darkhorse for the final spot? - Who is Kerr pairing with Draymond?

raikou1988

Wait did I miss something about Moody being slow ?

vulcans_pants

Yeah, he's not the most athletic guy. I think he might be too slow to defend guards, but we'll see. He has the huge wingspan in his favor, but the footspeed is definitely lacking.

SainttPablooo

Well in the summer league he wasn’t really blowing by people and it will only be harder to do so in the league

[deleted]

I just need him to be crafty like Paul Pierce.

Nghbrhd_slacker87

My predictions 1 Not yet but that's okay he's 18 2 Think this point was overemphasized... he'll have trouble with quick players yes but everyone does. 3 High hopes. I kinda expect to leave impressed. 4 Yup 5 a little washed. He's gonna know where to be... he has the basketball mind to be a instant contributor 6 Nope 7 Think all his minutes will sync Steph game one Preseason.

Jiraiyanamikaze

Regarding Kuminga, I actually think it’ll quickly show itself to be the opposite. Kuminga will be an inefficient .5 shots per minute as he develops, but his defense is only small adjustments away from being a positive. Wisdom and identifying bad habits. Other than that, he’s kind of stellar for how young he is on the defensive side. And he communicates play reads in the moment. That’s usually a good sign that they’ll have a good learning curve on D.

vulcans_pants

Eh, I think Kuminga's efficiency has a chance to be decent. Unlike the GL or SL, Kuminga is now the fourth or fifth option on offense. He can essentially be the recipient of all those layups and dunks that Oubre got.

BlankVoid2979

As much as i love Kuminga, he was a terrible defender in the GLeague, and has shown 0 signs that he can keep up with NBA players rn, unless he pulled a complete 180 in the offseason. Expect him to be pretty bad.

skedly

Plus, how legit our spacing would be when Bjelica plays at 5?

vulcans_pants

Yeah, there’s some interesting non-Draymond lineup combos. I’d really like to see - Steph - Poole/Klay - Wiggins - OPJ - Bjelica Bjelica can be a poor man’s Jokic at the top of the key. Wiggins might have to play center on defense though, but the offensive potential is though the roof.

MotoMkali

I really really think we should have 2 of Curry, Poole and Dray on the floor. We only have 2 shot creators in curry and Poole (plus maybe wiggins depending on how his handle is doing), so we need to stagger them as much as possible which is why I'm not sure starting Poole makes sense.

raikou1988

Coming clean. I was a dumbass for wanting Wiggins to retire. I made a post way earlier. I know nobody cares . Just wanted it stated . I got too caught up in the bullshit that I forgot the big picture. Let's go WARRIORS!

FearUncertainDoubt

The Soap Opera offseason is over! I can't wait for tonight! I guess technically a new soap opera begins... but at least its a new format

Shkillah

yea tonights game better show curry is mvp, poole is mip and 6moy, and kuminga is roy

NobodyInParticular-

Moody's form in all the training videos is so smooth and wet. Really nice.

Nghbrhd_slacker87

Form cant properly be described in the presence of loved ones lol... too sensual lol

spankyourkopita

So what was the deal with Wiggins holding out so long? I'm guessing he was gonna get it all along all but wanted to see how long he could put it off . Once the NBA said you can't play if you're not vaccinated he was like ok I gotta get it now. Still not sure why he went through all of this.

calviso

>So what was the deal with Wiggins holding out so long? The same deal he told us back in March. He hadn't been forced to yet. * 03/22/21: Wiggins says he's not getting it unless forced to * 09/01/21: NBA says SF and NY teams need to be vaccinated unless they have exemption * 09/21/21: Articles come out. Warriors fans lose their minds. * 09/24/21: SFDPH says no exemption for SF players. NBA denies Wiggins' request. * 09/27/21: Wiggins says his back is against the wall and he's keeping his status private. * 10/01/22: Wiggins presumably vaccinated. * 10/02/21: Wiggins misses practice due to being "under the weather." I personally wouldn't consider 5 business days "so long" of a time. Again, I'm surprised I've seen no one else be critical of the SFDPH and the NBA for not squashing the exemption stuff at the beginning of September.

Jiraiyanamikaze

Jehovah’s Witness. He had/has to deal with loved ones/peers in his ear saying that getting the vaccine is something that taints his relationship with god. Because that’s his religion.

elpeezey

I don’t think there’s any evidence that he’s a Jehovah’s Witness, I also don’t think that there’s an abundance of evidence that Jehovah’s Witness followers are anti-vaccine. They are anti-blood transfusion - this is well documented.

RimRunningRagged

Are you speculating, and/or basing that off of what happened with Darren Collison? Or do you know something we don't, because there's no info to indicate what denomination Wiggins belongs to, or what his beliefs are.

Daclitz

honestly who cares at this point? all that matters is he got vaccinated and is available to play all games this season. we should just focus on that.

elpeezey

We might not ever know what his reasoning was to begin with and what made him change his mind. Hoping he can put it behind himself and lock in for the season. Maybe he didn’t realize the gravity of it, maybe he wasn’t dug in and as much as some of us thought, maybe someone talked to him that made things click in a different way. Maybe the team culture and his positioning within the team made a difference. It’s great for the team and the fans. Not as ideal for him in the short-term because of the scrutiny he’s been getting. Hopefully it doesn’t linger all season.
