[CBS Sports] Ben Simmons trade rumors: Why 76ers might be smart to start considering prospect-centric packages

Acerod

Ugh another tired opinion piece detailing the same thing we’ve read for the last ten weeks. Personally loved the “Trade Ben to Warriors for their prospects and use them to get Dame”. Why wouldn’t the Warriors just do that then? Can’t wait for the season to start so we have games to watch and real content to read.

justinheyhi

>Why wouldn’t the Warriors just do that then? Outside of Dame not being available, the thing with that is Ben fits more next to Klay and Steph than Dame does. Dame is essentially a poor man's Steph, but Ben slides right into Draymond's role and would be a younger, faster upgrade. So obviously Draymond would be shipped to a 3rd team in any deal for Ben.

godish

Taller. Stronger. More athletic. Etc

pastelsonly

Where does Dame fit on the Warriors though? They’re a team where Ben makes more sense than Dame.

JaqM31st3R

Draymond and Ben together dont make sense either

Noshowers65

Damian Lillard is the better overall player, that's why the Warriors would pick him over Ben Simmons if the choice was available. If you want specifics each player has their own strengths. Damian Lillard is a better off ball guard, shooter, scorer. Great at catch and shoot, etc etc. He is a 0 on the defensive end so opposing teams would try to find he or Steph....but if the outcome of a game is going to be decided by a shootout, would you rather have and trust Dearron Fox and Buddy Hield to bring home the win (a sample team in their division) or a backcourt of Steph Curry and Damian Lillard?

tigerpawn

I'd have to think he'd be a better fit than Wiggins, or Oubre last season. Can't be any worse, right? Plus the rumor is Steph, Klay and Dray are pressing for a fourth star/superstar, can't do much better than Dame.

LarrySellers3

No need to rush a trade. I'll believe Ben sits out when he actually sits out. Never heard of someone turning down 30 mil a year before.

WizziesFirstRule

Yeah I have doubts he will sit out too. He has too many expensive toys to pay for!

FranklinRichardsStan

You do know he doesn't have to sit out right? If we make him play he can pull a Vince Carter and play like he doesn't care until he's traded. Or do what Rondo did with the Mavs and clash with the head coach and make the locker room toxic. He can do all of that without forfeiting money and it will actively make the Sixers worse and lower his value. It's a players league, playing a game of chicken with the players won't end well for the Sixers. Morey needs to try and trade him for a realistic package before shit gets uglier than it already is.

sodmoraes

Well after the way he.played in atl series i dont know if i cant tell the diference if he's playing seriously or just faking it. Morey should let him root, and just trade him if we get a decent offer.

think4yourselveshill

Hold onto him for the whole year and embarrass him. Can’t trade him for shit like we got for FultZ, Simmons will be good somewhere else, I don’t even put all blame on him for the pathetic choke job of all time in playoffs. You can’t trade a talent like him for mediocre shit. If it’s gotta be 2025 draft picks then so be it but not some mid level bum or even 3 of em. Ben Simmons helps you win even though he’s a complete donkey. He didn’t choke in the 4th QTs like Embiid did 4 straight times in easy wins. Harris sucked when matteted too. People gotta be real, Simmons still a dam clown but not all his fault.

tigerpawn

Trading Ben for picks and young guys that net you Beal or Dame is a farce. It makes sense in theory but sounds like hopium for a terrible situation and choice of options right now. Best they (FO) can do right now is to work like hell to iron out the differences, or let him play until something worth it comes, rather than hoping that taking a lackluster deal backdoors us a superstar.

Noshowers65

Yep I have always been of that mind as well. The whole "trade for what the Trailblazers want for Lillard now, then get Lillard later". It's a fantasy and always has been. When trading for a star / superstar in this league, a young, under contract and controllable piece will be better then a couple picks 10 times out of 10. Heck even the Pacers who had to get pennies on the dollar for Paul George still got a future star in Sabonis from that trade that is still on the roster and is a building block for their franchise. Portland will look around and have their pick of young talent, then they will just squeeze picks after the fact. If the best the Sixers have to offer next year (Damian will be a Blazer the entire season this year) is Maxey and picks and that is our hope for contention, then we might as well just start the rebuild this year and get picks and young guys for all the starting lineup. No reason to keep guys like Danny and Seth around if we aren't looking to compete and win the East (which we won't be if we dump Ben Simmons for picks or he doesn't play).

ststl02

i really like the Sexton, Okoro, salary filler and FRPs from Cleveland offer, tbh. don’t think it’s as bad as I feel many people would

indoninjah

I feel like if we’re taking a scoring combo guard that can’t play D, I’d rather just have CJ. He’s older yes but he’s more experienced, especially in the playoffs

LarrySellers3

Sexton is trash

Noshowers65

Black Hole on offense for sure

godish

I would be surprised if the cavs offered okoro and sexton

ststl02

agreed - i think if they did it would probably limit the amount of picks Philly would get in return

smittybanton

if it has to go down, wolves have the best youngsters: anthony edwards, jaden mcdaniels, naz reid. keep beverley, then move prospects and players and minnesota's picks to chicago for zach lavine once the bulls start to flail. Patrick Beverley, Zach Lavine, Danny Green, Tobias Harris, Joel Embiid Tyrese Maxey, Seth Curry, Matisse Thybulle, Georges Niang, Andre Drummond Jaden Springer, Isaiah Joe, Furkan Korkmaz, Paul Reed, Charles Bassey

TerminallyTrill

If the wolves were willing to move Edwards the trade would be done already.

Sixers14

Maxey would be a starter not fucking beverley lol

ExileOnBroadStreet

Edwards isn’t on the table and Wolves picks become meh if they keep their core in the trade and get Ben. I really don’t like them as a partner unless it’s Ant or maybe DLo, but they seem to be holding firm on them being a hard no

DavePooge

I think the wolves are only mentioned to scare Ben into falling in line. No way he wants to go to Minneapolis.

BenjIv3rson

He’s willing to go to Cleveland. What’s the difference? Minny at least has his friends on the team

DavePooge

That’s all smoke, he doesn’t want to go anywhere other than Cali and none of those teams want to give up what he’s worth

BenjIv3rson

Whatever you say DavePoop

DavePooge

I think they’d trade him if they could

Noshowers65

Ben is best friends with Towns and DLO, they basically stream and play PUBG and other games together weekly. I guarentee Ben would love to be there with those guys. This is also part of the reason the Wolves don't want to include DLO, which would be the piece I (and I assume the Sixers) would want to replace the playmaking and ball handling lost by trading Simmons.

DavePooge

Counterpoint, no he isn’t. If he was he wouldn’t have choked KAT two years ago.
